Dream school

Blessed Generation wants to have its own high school; our dream school.

Building our own high school is the next step for the needs of the orphans. Many have already achieved secondary school. With better education and better guidance we can make a difference for them!

We hope we can find people and organisations who want to help us build our own high school. In this way we can make high school available for our children.

With a Blessed Generations high school:

  • The orphans will feel safe and at home.
  • Girls and boys will go to school together.
  • The students will live in small units (15 students per house).
  • The students will be responsible for making  breakfast and dinner.
  • The students will work together with great supervisors who works in small groups, making it easy to discuss problems.
  • We will use computers, the Internet and new technologies as learning tools.
  • The students will follow chemistry, physics, music and history lessons.
  • We will bring the students in contact with the world, and teach them how to think for themselves.

Why build a high school?

In the philosophy of Blessed Generation, good education is key. It is the key to a better future as an independent citizen who can contribute to Kenyan society.

After the children have gone through elementary school in the orphanage they go to secondary schools. These are boarding schools throughout Kenya. Sponsors pay for their education. Currently 106 children from the Blessed Generation (BG) orphanages go to a boarding school.

We face the following challenges:

  • Increasing school costs: tuition per child increases yearly, and the number of high school students is growing.
  • Decreasing interest from sponsors who want to pay the school fees.
  • High travel costs during the holidays, for the children to travel back home from school or vice versa.
  • Visits and counselling by social workers from Blessed Generation cost a lot of money,  because of long travel distances.
  • Orphans are struggling to stand alone being so far from home.

The solution:

Blessed Generation wants to beat these financial and social-emotional challenges by starting their own high school. The budget that is now available for the students to spend on school and travell, can be used for the annual operating costs for private boarding at Blessed Generation’s own high school.

Advantages of a Blessed Generation’s private boarding high school:

  • Less travel costs.
  • Blessed Generations social workers don’t have to travel throughout the country anymore.
  • The orphans will be in a familiar and safe environment together with the other children from BG, and will not have to be isolated anymore.
  • Children with difficult family situations can stay at Blessed Generations high school during the holidays.
  • Our social workers are on the spot, and can help the students better and faster.

By making private boarding  at Blessed Generation accessible to tuition -paying students from outside the orphanage, there will be more budget available. The sponsorship of orphans is still necessary, but can be reduced. The aim is to lower the amount €of €1.,000 per secondary school student per year to €750 per year in the initial phase of the school year. We want to reduce the sponsorship money per student to €400 or less.

What  doeswill our dream school look like?

Blessed generation’s high school’s main goal is to give the children good education, and social and emotional support, so the children will be more confident, develop their talents and become  responsible and good educated people.

By using new technologies, the  Internet and computers as new learning tools, the high school will step away from the old fashioned way of education and provide a higher standard of education which will link better to a job or possible further education.

The Blessed Generation high school in a nutshell.:

  • A small school with a maximum of 250 students, nearby the orphanage in Malindi.
  • The children are central
  • Learning tools are aligned with the digital age.
  • Independence, confidence, developing talent.
