Orphanage Ruiru

It all started with the orphanage in Ruiru, about 30 kilometres from Nairobi.

The wobbly wooden barracks of then have been replaced by a new building. There is a good-functioning kitchen, a beautiful large dining room, separate dormitories for boys and girls and. . an elementary school to be proud of!

Understanding in surroundings.

With help from Dutch donors and companies, the orphanage and the school have become well known in the area. The Kenyan school system includes a yearly test, similar to the Dutch CITO-test. In Kenya this test determines everything. Not only the students, but also the school, the board and teachers are being tested. Blessed Generation’s school has achieved very high results in the last couple of years. This offers a lot of opportunities for the children, but is also good for the school as it has built an excellent reputation. Our reputation is so good, that parents in the neighbourhood want to send their children to our school.

Primary Education for 300 children.

The school does not  only provide good education for the almost 90 orphans, but also for the 200 children from the neighbourhood. As a result, the school receives additional government grants. The Children from Ruiru’s orphanage interact with children and their families in the neighbourhood. Thanks to the ‘sponsoring’ of the neighbourhood children, Blessed Generation pays very little for the primary education of the children in the orphanage.

The school has a computer room. This is very unique for Kenya: a primary school where children from a young age have computer lessons. The children form Blessed Generation are being better prepared for their future, so they can fully participate in the digital age.

The orphanage is under Kenyan leadership and is mostly self-supporting through income-generating projects, such as cattle and chicken breeding, dog breeding, a vegetable garden and a guesthouse.
